What a thrilling battle this will be! Henao seems to be the better climber, but the last ITT will be a great chance for you to defend this small gap. Looking forward to this final days, again: good luck

As long as Fuglsang leads before the ITT, or only close behind, he'll take the win. What a great Vuelta so far!!

Stage 18 ~ Andorra La Vella - Montserrat

We've arrived at the last stage where we'll actually need to defend the leader's jersey. If we survive this one, this title should be more or less wrapped up, barring a disaster or bad day in the time trial. Exciting final climb today.
For a long time, it looked like the breakaway would succeed, but with just five kilometers left, the main field gobbled them up. To avoid getting blocked, Van den Broeck moved Fuglsang into pole position.
Our tactic resulted in an even better scenario than we hoped for. While Fuglsang ziz-zagged his way between the escapees, many others got caught behind, allowing the man in the red jersey to gap them.
Henao realized the danger pretty quickly and started to take chase from behind together with Marzano. No sign of Cobo.
After pursuiting for a few kilometers, Henao managed to somewhat make contact with Fuglsang in front. Just over one kilometer left.
Chasing for so long had clearly tired Henao, since he blew up when Fuglsang accelerated to shake him off in the final sprint!
He clearly wasn't bluffing about not being able to follow. Therefore Fuglsang motored away to the stage win and most likely, the overall victory at this Vuelta! Not undeserving, since this was his third stage win.
With the head down, Henao crossed the line in second place, just over twenty seconds behind a man he couldn't beat today. Barredo, Piedra and Marzano followed next, along with Cobo, who caught back.
No exported results again, unfortunately.

Great win by Fuglsang, rode a very consistent Vuelta throughout.

Stage 19 ~ Sabadell - Sabadell

We're getting closer and closer to the end of this Vuelta, with the penultimate flat stage. A pretty hard day from the sprinters' perspective though, as there are a number of climbs on the route. Nothing notable however.
A five man group is still ahead by a good margin at the foot of the last climb. No doubt that the stage win will go to one of Cioni, Lefevre, Barla, Vandenbergh or Velits.
Lefevre sets a high pace on the climb and drops both Vandenbergh and Velits. The negative part of doing this work was that he was then forced to continue to lead all the way to the final.
Barla surprised the other two with an early acceleration, but Cioni's experience allowed him to catch onto the back and over the top of his fellow Italian just at the line. Lefevre finished far behind.
Sagan was as usual the quickest from the main field, with the eternal second, Van Hummel and Howard next. As expected, no change in the general classification, and now just two days left to defend the lead.

Hope everything goes well for Fuglsang in the last TT, if so, the Vuelta is in your pocket. BTW, I think it's quite impressive to win the Giro/Vuelta double with 1t4i, respect for that.
Lots of GL for the last two stages!
Oh, yes, a pity for van Hummel.

Looking good! It's going to take a real upset for Henao to win it now (not to jinx it at all) |
