Welcome to the Skoda - KB team Headquarters. Our team is solely based in the Czech Republic and represented by our two main sponsers:

Skoda is a Czech car automotive company that has been around since being founded by Vaclav Laurin in 1895. Although Skoda might seem like a small company because cars are not sold in North America, sales in Europe have past 600,000. Many may know Skoda for sponsering many international events such as the IIHF world hockey champoinships, but Skoda also is the proud sponser of the Tour de France and the White Youth jersey, so its only fitting that our team will be young and full of promise.

KB or Komercni Banka is the largest Bank branch in the Czech Republic. With over 1.5 million active users they decided to share their wealth with this new Czech cycling team. Although there name is second they actually contribute 60% of the 900,000 budget.
The jersey for this year is no longer a mystery and has been revealed at the team press conference:

This amazing jersey was created by ANFreeman and showcases the two major sponsors with a stunning blend of colour and texture.

Win Neuseenclassics

This race is pancake flat and should be to the liking of the many Czech sprinters Skoda - KB are trying to reel in. A victory here could be tough since there are many good sprinters in Division 2, but I like our chances.
Top Ten Klasika Sniezka

One may wonder why a Czech team would take to the cobbles, but surprisingly the top cobblers happen to be Czech! If all goes well in the signing this race should be a piece of cake. It's also located in Poland so one of the closest races to the Czech Republic.
Classics Consistency
The goal is to have 6 top fives in the 16 classics of in Division 2.

Press Release #1: Free Agent Frenzy
Czech Journalist JaromÃr Novák from Idnes.cz sat down with newly appointed Directeur Sportif DJP19.
After you appointment to DS every reporter could not believe a Canadian was chosen to head this new project. Thoughts?
I am a Canadian, but my entire background is from the Czech Republic. I will have no problems communicating with our team because yes I am fluent in Czech. I was most likely chosen because Jan Svorada wasn't available.
Funny. How have the sponsors Skoda and Komercni Banka been treating you?
Oh they have been great. They had no problem forking up the 900,000 Euros and are very optimistic about the sponsorship. They want there name to be advertised across the Czech Republic and the rest of Europe. With major wins by us we can give them great publicity in the newspaper and on tv. Skoda has even supplied me with 5 brand new Skoda Octavia's to be handed out at my discretion.
And how will you use these gifts?
I will use one for the official team car and hand out the rest to major victories achieved by the riders.
With free agency slated to begin on July 15th, how are you getting prepared and what can we expect from this transfer season?
I have already been in talks with a few major riders here in Czech and the discussion are going well. Of course they haven't heard from other teams so most of the deals are pointless right now. I just want to get to know the riders that are available and make them feel welcome if they do get signed. Oh and as to what you can expect this transfer season, you will experience an aggressive manager who won't take no for an answer. With a small budget I will try to use the money wisely, but I won't back out of a bidding war for a top rider.
Thanks for you time, any last comments?
Nope, just 5 simple words: All I Do is Win! Oh and this year my teams hands WILL be going up.....
This picture was received 2 hours after the interview, attached with the following comment "Look out Peleton!"

Spotted: Martin Mares Walking out of Skoda Headquarters
Martin Mares was just spotted leaving Skoda headquarters in Czech Republic. The 29 year old, born in Blansko, was recently linked to manager DJP19 and the new Skoda - KB cycling team. Mares is being heavily considered for the leading role of the new Czech cycling project. He is among the best Czech free agents and is an all rounder when it comes to cycling.
His major focus for the 2012 season is to sign a contract with a good team and get his career back on track. With some minor wins in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Mares hasn't been in big winners circle since his overall victory in the Tour of Qinghai Lake in 2005. He is also proud of his second place finish at the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda in 2006. Mares has proven success, but needs a new and a fresh start since he hasn't;t been racing since his brief stint with the now folded AON Global back in 2010.
Martin Mares had this to say after leaving the Skoda building, "Yes, I am in talks with Skoda - KB and I would be delighted to pull on the red and green colours. I also wouldn't mind wearing the 1 in my race number. As long as no better offers come my way, rest assured I will be starting the 2012 season with Skoda - KB"
Blogs and forum sites have been raving with the recent news for a big ticket transfer. DJP19 had no comments on the matter, but was looking quite happy when last seen exiting the office with unknown rider from the free agent pool.

Press Release #2: The Dust Settles
Czech Journalist JaromÃr Novák from Idnes.cz sat down with newly appointed Directeur Sportif DJP19 after the completion of the Transfer Season.
How would you rank you transfer success this year?
Well with the team roster just being released above, I must say I am very pleased with how the transfer season went. We signed 9 Czech riders which will keep our sponsors happy and 4 great riders from neighbouring countries. Accept for two riders all transfers went smoothly and every Czech rider was committed 100% to transferring to Skoda - KB for a very reasonable price.
Do you think your team will be able to compete this year and garnish good results?
Well, for the sake of my job I sure do hope so. Skoda - KB wants our team jersey in as many photos on news-stands across the Czech Republic and a lot of Europe. With the riders we bought, we will be able to compete on the cobbles, especially well in the sprints and have some luck in breakaways and on the hills. Mountains are probably our weakest discipline, but after reviewing mostly European races, not that many races include mountainous terrain.
Now, Ino Ilesic, must I ask anymore?
Ha, I was waiting for this one. We needed a top class sprinter for one of our sponser goals and we had some disposable income. I received some positive and negative comments about his signing and we can only hope he performs. He has great ability and he will be given many chances to succeed this year and we are hoping for the best.
Can you give us a rundown on the rest of your roster?
I will be creating a guide to our roster if you will in the next couple of days so stay posted. I can share that our team is filled with lots of character and has chosen 3 leaders that will be complimented by young domestiques willing to grow and some veterans to help guide the way.
Thanks for this DJP19, I look forward to the team presentation.
No problem and so do I.

Skoda - KB Final Roster 2012
Ino Ilesic
Age: 28
Discipline: Sprinter
Ino will be our leader for the sprints this year. If a classic or stage race has a flat stage, Ino will be there. Ino has always been doubted because of his inability to get over climbs, but we feel he can prove the naysayer's wrong. We hope for many stages out of him in 2012 and will have our teams full support.
Martin Mares
Age: 30
Discipline: Puncher
Martin is our experienced veteran who has been in this sport for a while. He will lead our team in hilly classics and hilly stage races. He will be supported by our team, but if he falters leadership changes are not out of the question.
Radomir Simunek
Age: 29
Discipline: Cobblestones, Downhiller
Radomir is one of the best cobble riders in the Div-2 so we expect a lot out of him. He his able to climb well and if dropped can easily recover with his superb descending techniques. A few wins or Top 5's is what's expected of him in the cobbled classics.
Johannes Frohlinger
Age: 27
Discipline: Stage Racer, Climber
Johannes will lead our team into the mountains this year. Although not the best climber, we have faith in the German. He will also compete in the hilly terrain and be the leader for most stage races. We expect some top ten finishes on stages and hopefully a good result overall.
Jan Simek
Age: 26
Discipline: Cobblestones
Jan is very good on the cobbles and will play a vital role in the protection in Radomir. he will always be the last man with him on the cobbles and hopefully can provide some sort of lead-out if need be.
Stanislav Kozùbek
Age: 32
Discipline: All Rounder
Stanislav excels at most disciplines and will use all those combined traits to be a super domestique. He packs a decent sprint and if he get over the tougher hills he might have a go for himself at the finish line.
Zdenek Krizek
Age: 25
Discipline: ?
Zdenek was brought on to play the role of domestique and that's what he will be doing. With no stand out traits he will mostly be used to occasionally get in the break and get our team water if needed.
Ondrej Belohoubek
Age: 24
Discipline: Climber
Ondrej is a talented young climber. He will provide support in the mountains and hopefully in a few years become a leader himself. With a great acceleration he will become an explosive climber one day.
Zdenek Machac
Age: 25
Discipline: Sprinter
Zdenek is packed with potential and hopefully he can become a sprinting great. This season he will be leading out Ino, but he might get a chance or two because the hills don;'t scare him. His icon was Ján Svorada growing up, and what a dream it would be if he turns out the same.
Konstantin Klimiankou
Age: 23
Discipline: Climber
Konstantin is the future of our team. He has massive potential and will given as many race days as possible. he excels in the mountains, but has the attributes to become a very good stage racer. We will give him ample time to learn and grow and hope he can lead our team one day.
Lubomir Petrus
Age: 22
Discipline: Hilly Puncher
Lubomir is another budding talent with room to grow. He excels on the short steep climbs and is working on his acceleration which is quite good for his age. He will be helping our leaders in the classics, but will be given the nod to join a breakaway once in a while.
Jan Hirt
Age: 21
Discipline: Fighter, Hilly Puncher
Jan Hirt is a real gem because he excels in a lot of areas. He is the guy on the block with only some amateur races under his belt. This year he will learn the ways of professional cycling and will always be present in the breakaway. He has a lot of potential and I am confident his hilly attributes will improve making him the puncher to look out for in the future.
Sylvester Janiszkiewicz
Age: 24
Discipline: Sprinter
Sylvester is our other new young rider, except Sylvester excels in a different discipline, sprinting. He will hopefully become the next sprinting superstar, but this year he will focus on leading out our leader. He does get over the climbs more easily so expect him to be our fast finisher in a couple of classics and stages.

Pre-Race Dubai Grand Prix

Skoda Startlist
I. Ilesic
J. Hirt
S. Janiszkiewicz
Z. Krizek
Z. Machac
The first race of the season kicks off in hot and windy Dubai. Are riders arrived in Dubai this morning and went out for a team ride. They previewed the 17km circuit and our sprinters are pleased. Ino thought the profile looked much harder, but now he is more confident heading into the race after previewing the course today. We have brought along Jan Hirt to hopefully get into the breakaway and at least give our sponsers some air time. Our goals here is to win, but the team would still be satisfied with a top 5 or 10 placing.
Tune in at 23.00 CET on CT24 Sport to watch Skoda-KB Race live!

Post-Race Dubai Grand Prix
Skoda Startlist

The first race of the season kicked off in hot and windy Dubai. It was a hard day in the saddle for the Skoda-KB team who managed the highest place finish on the day by Ino Ilesic at 62nd. The manager was very disappointed in how the team rode, but admits it is all part of the learning process. No rider was present in the breakaway and Ino had no chance in the sprint. The wind and the lumps on the 17km circuit may have been to blame, but the manager believes he just wasn't strong enough. Directeur Sprotif DJP19 joked, "Ino was our appointed leader and I'm glad he was the highest placed." The team now flys to Australia to take on the first stage race of this years Div-2. With three short flat stages Ino is poised on redeeming himself.
Congratulations goes out to Haddou of Alstom - Bic for winning the Dubai Classic.

Pre-Race Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne

Skoda Startlist
R. Simunek
J. Hirt
O. Belohoubek
L. Petrus
J. Simek
With the first cobbled race in the Division-2 coming up this weekend, the team is well poised to get there first stage win of the season. With two experienced riders in Simunek and Simek, Skoda has a very good chance. Jan Simek will probably work his hardest to drill the peleton on the early part of the stage to drop sprinters and leave a select group of leaders. Simunek does not pack a big sprint, so we will try to get him up the road and win it solo. The Directeur Sportif is still deciding whether the last cobbled section is a good spring board, but many believe it is to far to the finish. The DS is however sure that his team produce fireworks and won't go down without a fight. The rest of the squad are comprised of the young talent looking to gain some experience. They will look to lend a hand where possible, but with there talent on cobbles they won't be of much use. With year starting off quite poorly for Skoda-KB, the team is looking for its first taste in glory.
Tune in either Saturday or Sunday on CT24 Sport to watch Skoda-KB Race with delayed coverage!

Post-Race Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne Report
Skoda Startlist
R. Simunek
J. Hirt
O. Belohoubek
L. Petrus
J. Simek
The end of the first cobbled classic brought a mixed reception to team Skoda-KB and the DS. Radomir Simunek placed 15th and picked up 8 Division-2 points. Simunek was pleased with his result as he was the 4th best placed rider out of the pack, but was quick to criticize his team and the others. "With over 20 teams racing and only a handful represented in the break, there is no reason a breakaway and a lone rider make it to the finsih with 5 minutes to spare." He went on to thank his teamates, but felt Simek could have done a better job pulling and the three youngsters need to get there heads on straight. "They think they own the world becasue of their 50,000 euro paycheck's, but newsflash, they need to (profanity) earn it." The DS had kinder words and is optimistic about the future cobbled classics, but stressed the need for a rider in the break. He stated that Skoda-KB needs more top tens and breaks have been providing that with the less ambitious field. Skoda-KB sponsers were pleased that Simunek was in a picture and finally brought some exposure for them. Idnes.cz also reported on the race and have a photo of the sprint for 12th place up on the site.

Simunek is in 4th position on the right.

Skoda - KB March Update
Three races were completed in the month of March with mediocre results for the Czech Div-2 team. Simunek placed 16th at the Italian Strade Appia Antica Classic. Perhaps the best result of the month came to J.Frohlinger who was able to finsh 11th overall at the Tour of San Juan in Argentina. Skoda needs as many points as possible to stay out of the basement of the Division-2 standings. In San Jaun Ilesic was able to snag his best ever finish at second during the 5th stage. It was a great result for the Slovenian sprinter who is starting to show his capabilities in bunch sprints.

Ilesic taking second place in the 5th stage during the Tour of San Juan
Finally, young Belarusian phenom Konstantin Klimiankou was able to finish 12th at the Championships of Zurich after a long day in the break. It was a great showing from the talented young climber who was able to take some valuable points in the Div-2 standings.
Skoda-KB sits in 21st place with 76 points. Frohlinger is currently 67th in the individual category with 23 points.
Up Next in April:
GP Marseille
Ronde van Belgia
Remember to check the Team results section for the best placed rider and special mentions in stage races.
