Something new stirring in Lithuania

On a press conference earlier in Vilnius earlier today, Kestutis Jasiunas CEO of laser manufacturing company Ekspla, and Gintaras Jasinskas CEO of supermarket chain Maxima revealed, that they have joined forces to create a new ambitious Lithuanian cycling team.

The press conference was virtually empty, and very few media sources showed any interest in project. And that is exactly what the two businessmen want to change. "We need to raise interest in cycling in Lithuania" said Mr. Jasinskas, when asked why they would go in on such a project.

The new team shirt, and the teams focus races will be presented at a later date.

We are really happy with this shirt. We wanted something that is easy to recognise in the peloton, and we got what we wanted. We are proud to wear those colours in the forthcoming season.

Ekspla-Maxima team manager remains silent on tranfers

The newly appointed manager of the Ekspla-Maxima cycling team, still won't give any names off riders, that he's interested in signing in the upcoming transfer period. We met him at a café in Kaunas, to ask him about the team.

Journalist: Mr. Demus, your tam hasn't signed any riders yet. Are you concerned that you will be caught out on big names by waiting?

Me: No, not at all. All the teams in the division are new, and they will all need to plan a lot before signing any riders. I suspect that we will be ready at the same time as most other teams.

Journalist: Can you tells us about what riders you are looking to sign?

Me: Not at this time, no. We are under some restrictions. The team has to consist of 50% lithuanian riders, and there aren't many of those, so we will have a slim selection. But you can look at our season goals, and you will get a good idea of which type of rider we are looking to sign.

Journalist: Could you please elaborate?

Me: Well...our main goal this season is to win the Chrono Gatineau, so obviously we will need some strong TT riders. And as we plan to win a lot of races this season, a good sprinter will probably also be an important transfer target.

Journalist: But you can't give us any names?

Me: At this time, no. You will have to wait untill we have a contract with a rider.

Journalist: Will there be any big name signings?

Me: It's not about names. It's about talent, and desire to win.

Journalist: Thank you for your time.

25 year olds Mantas Mikuzis and Marius Bernatonis, and 28 year old Romas Sinicinas are mainly signed as allround domestiques, and will fullheartedly help their leaders.

American sprinter ready to go

Just minutes after naming his first signings, MrDemus presented another signing for his team. The 30 year old american Mike Friedman, who is set to be the teams leading sprinter. Unknown to most lithuanians, he is described as a really fast sprinter with great acceleration. He is also said to be really great for stage races, as his recovery between stages is excellent.

Russian sprinter talent for Ekspla-Maxima

Ekspla-Maxima team manager MrDemus has signed yet another rider. This time it's the 26 year old Alexander Porsev. Porsev is a russian sprinter, who has a lot of room for improvement, but MrDemus sees him as a man for the future.

Ekspla-Maxima manager still aiming to sign 4-6 riders

"We talked to Ekspla-Maxima team manager MrDemus about his further adventures in the transfer market.

Journalist: First of all, congratulations on finally signing your first contracts. Are you happy with the riders you've managed to sign?

Me: Well, yes and no. We had to sign 6 lithuanians to fulfill the requirements of the division, but frankly the talent in this country just isn't big enough, so we had to spend money on riders, that we wouldn't have signed, if their passports had a different nationality. But, otherwise I am very happy so far.

Journalist: I see, you have managed to sign two sprinters, some guys for the TT, and a cobbled rider. What type of rider are you looking into next?

Me: We are looking to sign at least 4 more riders, as we have to have at least 12 riders on our roster, but we are aiming for 6. We would love to have one more strong TT rider, a mountain rider, a hills rider and a big talent. After that we will see what is available.

Journalist: Very well. Thank you for your time

Ekspla-Maxima continues signings

Today the lithuanian cycling team Ekspla-Maxima signed their ninth rider for the forthcoming season. The rider in question is the 24 year old spanish climber Esteban Mardones, who is set to be the teams leader as soon as the road rises. MrDemus is said to be very happy with his new rider, and can't wait to see him competing in the mountains.

Frenchman signs for Ekspla-Maxima

Ekspla-Maxima has signed their 10th rider, the 31 year old Benoit Daeninck from France. Daeninck is reportedly a man for the hillier terrain, and should do some good for the team in the bumpier classics.

Thanks. I am actually quite pleased with my signings. Individually they are not the best available, but as a team I feel we are pretty good all around

Ekspla-Maxima signs two

Two new riders were presented at a press conference in Vilnius this morning. First up was 28 year old TT specialist from New Zealand, Logan Hutchings. He is described as a rider, who can handle him self fairly in all terrains.

The second rider was the 23 year old Belarussian all-rounder, Andrei Krasilnikau. Krasilnikau is considered one of the bigger talents form Belarus, and MrDemus is very excited to have him on his team, where he will hopefully flourish into a top rider.

MrDemus names leaders

Ekspla-Maxima have named their leaders for the forthcoming season. The first two comes as no surprise. Frenchman Benoît Daeninck, and American Mike Friedman is set to use thier vast experience to guide the team to victory. The last name on the sheet is perhaps a small surprise. Mindaugas Striska has been named the final leader. MrDemus had the following statement:

"Well, we chose Mindaugas because of his experience and his skills on the cobbles. He will be our man to look out for, when we hit Flanders and the likes. But, we must make clear, that everybody on the team has an important role to play, and everybody will have their chance to win a race."

It was also told, that just because he named his leaders, it doesn't mean that the team won't be strengthened further. But that the next signing would be a young talent.

Ekspla-Maxima wraps up transfer season with exotic signing

Today Team Ekspla-Maxima signed their final rider of the transfer season. The 25 year old Marc Codrington from Trinidad and Tobago. He is described as a rider, who is best on flat cobbled sections, but has a lot of room for improvement.

Codrington wanted to try his luck on the european circuit, as cycling isn't a big sport in his home country, and is said to welcome the opportunity to try his skills against european opponents.
