We'll be protecting Lorenzetto and Bole today, they should feature prominently in the sprint.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0065.jpg
Bernucci got in the break, a fairly large one. His aim was to survive until the only categorised climb of the day near the end of the stage and take maximum points.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0066.jpg
He did just that, fighting on top ahead of a chasing peleton, and will find himself in a new jersey tomorrow.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0068.jpg
Bole survived the climb and found himself in a nice position ahead of the sprint. Many sprinters were struggling to keep up at this point, obviously weakened by the climb.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0069.jpg
Bole opens his sprint under the one km to go banner, Giovanni Visconti on his outside.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0070.jpg
Visconti is obviously in better condition, he comes right paased him and takes the opening stage of the 2010 Tirreno - Adriatico.

Stage 5

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0054.jpg
The steepest mountain top finish of the race, will this be the most decisive stage of the race?

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0073.jpg
The peleton was reduced to just a small group as the race approached the final climb.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0074.jpg
With attacks being made left, right and centre eventually Spilak decided it was time to make a move...

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0075.jpg
Ahead of Spilak, Tony Martin was racing ahead, looking for his second victory of the race. Behind Martin Cadel Evans was doing everything possible to catch him.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0076.jpg
But nobody could match Tony Martin today, the promising young German takes victory on stage 5 to go with his victory on stage 1. Evans came home second.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0077.jpg
Spilak rode a great race to round out the podium positions in third place.

Stage 2

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0098.jpg
After coming so close to victory yesterday, will the better sprinter prevail today?

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0120.jpg
With the break caught the stage would come down to a sprint. We set up nicely, with Lorezetto leading out Bole.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0121.jpg
A few riders started their sprint very early hoping to suprise us. But Lorenzetto held them off without even sprinting to put Bole in a fantastic position.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0122.jpg
Only four men could now claim victory, Bole, Lorezetto, Visconti (ISD) or Breschel (SAX). Bole opened his sprint and came up alongside Breschel.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0123.jpg
As they rounded the turn the finish line was now in their sights, but the two riders couldn't be split. Throwing everything they had at theline, both men wanted this victory badly.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0124.jpg
VICTORY! Grega Bole wins by the narrowest of margins. Neither rider was convinced they'd won as they crossed the line, but replays afterwards showed Bole had edged his opponent out. Lorenzetto caped off a wondeful stage by taking 4th place.

Our first PT victory of the season. To make things even sweeter the victory gives Bole the overall lead.

Thanks.

Yeah I hope for a top 10 overall with Spilak. The race doesn't really have a big mountain top finish though, where I think he could do quite well, so it won't be easy. Many of the favourites don't attack on the slopes, but on the flat so it's just a mattar of picking the right move to counter.

Stage 6

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0055-1.jpg
Flatish stage, but that doesn't neccessarily mean a mass sprint finish. Maybe a chance for a GC contender to win back time on his rivals?

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0132.jpg
A group of 5 formed at the front and were given a lot of leeway by the peleton, no Lampre riders present.

Behind them a group of favourites attcked and formed a chasing group, again no Lampre rider present. This is shaping as a bad day for the Italian squad.

Whilst this was going on the breakaway continued to maintain a large advantage.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0133.jpg
They held off the chase group all the way to the line, Marco Marcato escaped near the end of the stage to take victory for Vaconsoleil, deserved Wild Card recievers. Spilak and Pietropolli finish in the peleton, a minute behind the favourites group.

Two in a row for Bole?

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0104.jpg
Bole shows off his jersey to the cameras. He'll be hoping to keep it today.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0106.jpg
Lorenzetto seemed better than Bole as the riders entered the final km. Lorenzetto passed the pace setter, Bellotti of Liquigas and took the lead.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0117.jpg
But Oscar Freire of Rabobank came around the outside to take victory.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0116.jpg
Lorenzetto edged out Bennati to claim second. Three top 2's in as many days for Lampre, a promising start to the season. 8th for Bole, he keeps the leaders jersey by 2 seconds ahead of Freire

Stage 7

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0056.jpg
The 'Queen Stage' of the race. We climb the biggest climb in this year's race, before a mountain top finish.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0093.jpg
Hoping to catch out his rivals, Frank Schleck was the first to attack.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0095.jpg
Shortly after a favourites group formed at the front of the race, containing six riders including the Yellow Jersey and Green Jersey. No Lampre riders present.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0096.jpg
Spilak was still sitting back in the peleton, quickly running out of energy. He tried an attack to join the leading group but didn't have the strength. It soon became clear that the winner of the day's stage would come from the front group.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0118.jpg
The Yellow Jersey wanted the victory, LL Sanchez decided to go alone.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0119.jpg
And he takes the win, victory for Luis Leon Sanchez. He is definately the strongest man in the race. The small peleton of 37 riders including Spilak rolled in nearly 2 minutes later. A top 10 finish seemed to be slipping away from our leader.

Stage 4

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0100-1.jpg
Today we will finish atop the feared Montelupone climb. Only the strongest riders will make it to the finish at the front. Positioning at the start of the final ascent will be crucial. We have four men we believe are cpable of a good result today, Simoni, Bole, Lorenzetto and Gavazzi. We'll have to see how they're going before deciding on our leaders.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0126.jpg
The break built up a good lead and stayed away for most of the day, near the finsh Wegmann decided to go alone.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0127.jpg
Over the 10km before the finish line, atacks were coming from all directions. Wegmann was soon caught.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0128.jpg
Inside the final km and Visconti was in the lead. At this stage Bole and Simoni looked our best hopes. Gavazzi was working hard for the two.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0129.jpg
Just metres from the line and the peleton were breathing down Visconti's neck.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0130.jpg
But Visconti had the legs to hold them off, taking his second victory of the race. Bole raced well into 5th place.

Stage 8

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0057-1.jpg
The final stage of this year's 'Race to the Sun'. While the overall victory looks secured by Luis Leon Sanchez, the other minor places are up in the air. Our goal coming into the race was a top 10 overall, Spilak is currently sitting in 12th place and will need a great ride today to reach our goal.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0156.jpg
With the break almost caught, many favourites started attacking, this played into the hands of the escapee's as they were soon joined by the fresh legs of these favourites. A lead group of four formed, consisting of C. Evans (BMC), J. Coppel (SAU), D. De la Fuente (AST), S. Szmyd (LIQ).

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0157.jpg
Behind a larger chasing group had formed, again consisting of a mix of favourites and breakaway riders.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0158.jpg
Evans was clearly the strongest in the lead group and powered away to victory, maybe slight compensation for missing out on overall victory. Luis Leon Sanchez came home not long after to seal victory in the 2010 Paris - Nice.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0159.jpg
Simon Spilak came home in the peleton to finish the race a disapointing 12th overall.

One word... Cancellara. Could anybody defeat Spartacus? Maybe the hilly terain could help some riders, but Fabian just looks to good on paper.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0134.jpg
One of the early started Malori, set the a time that wouldn't be beaten for a while. Hopefully in a few years he'll be able to compete for the victory in TT's.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0137.jpg
Frantisek Rabon rode well to take the lead from our man Malori. The Czech rider couldn't hold onto the lead though, 8th place + 1'51 for Rabon.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0139.jpg
Last year's runner up Stefano Garzelli had a poor start to this year's edition, he was looking to turn it around in the TT. Unfortunately for his Italian fans he couldn't do that, 29th place for the veteran.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0140.jpg
A nice ride by Millar gave him second place + 47.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0143.jpg
A dissapointing performance by Nibali today, 17th + 2'15.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0142.jpg
Vinokourov strated the race as a serious overall contender. He did his chances no harm today, 3rd place + 1'07.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0145.jpg
From the time he rolled down the start ramp to the time he crossed the finish line, Graga Bole never looked like putting in a good ride. A 64th place + 3'40 puts an end to his GC aspirations. He can now concentrate solely on the final stage and winning the points jersey.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0144.jpg
Visconti rode the TT of his life today, he recorded the 10th quickest time, + 2'02. The Italian looks to be in ominous form.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0141.jpg
Nobody could get close to Fabian Cancellara today, the World ITT Champion demolished his rivals and might have set himself up for an overall victory.

Stage 6

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0102.jpg
We leave the small hills behind today and head into the mountains for the 'Queen Stage' of this years race. Gilberto Simoni will be our leader today,

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0148.jpg
Bernucci went out on the attack early, hoping to stengthen his lead in the KoM competition. He succeded taking maximum points over the first climb, virtually securing his jersey.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0149.jpg
Up the main climb of the day and the peleton was shedding riders fast.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0150.jpg
Down the other side and the peleton had been reduced to just 30 odd riders. Simoni was sitting comfortably in there, his excellent downhill skills helped him recuperate a bit on the way down.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0151.jpg
At the bottom, Simoni attacked! He brought Soler with him.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0152.jpg
The two of them joined up with Thomas Lovkvist out in front of the peleton. Back in the peleton Cancellara hadn't made a move, had he cracked?

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0153.jpg
No he hadn't, suddenly launching out of the peleton.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0154.jpg
Before long he'd caught our man. Lovkvist couldn't keep up with the group and dropped back. At this point it became apparent that the winner would come from this group of three.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0155.jpg
Cancellara doesn't know how to lose from a position like this, he ousprinted his companions to take his second win in as many days. With this victory pretty much secured overall victory. Simoni took second place to sqeeze into 10th place overall.

Stage 7

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0103.jpg
The final stage of this years race, coming into the race our sponsors wanted victory in the Points Jersey classification, with just one stage to go Bole is sitting second in that category just 2 points behind Visconti. We will be doing everythig we can today to get him the jersey.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0160.jpg
Our sprint train didn't quite work out and Lorenzetto (right) and Bole (left) ended up in different trains.

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0161.jpg
It seemed to have worked out however as Bole took the lead more than 1km out, had he gone too early?

i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0162.jpg
It seems he had, swamped to the line as Bennati took the win. Lorenzetto was our best placed rider in 4th. But we didn't really care about that result, as Grega Bole had finished 6th, enough to win him the Points Classification! Objective completed!

It has been a very successfull race for us with 4 top3 three stage finishes, 10th overall with Simoni, the KoM jersey with Burnucci and of couse the Points Jersey with Bole. Now we just can't wait to get to Milan - Sanremo and give it everything we've got.

2010 Milan - Sanremo

Route
i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Bomber4ever/Lampre%20-%20Farnese%20Vini/PCM0165.jpg

The Milan - Sanremo route gives a unique opportunity for both sprinters and attackers to take victory. Attacks are sure to come thick and fast late in the race from some of the best cyclists in the world, can the sprinters teams control them and bring the race back together for a mass sprint?

Startlist
Spoiler:

We've set Bole and Lorenzetto for this race, both are capable of getting over the hills in good shape so we hope to feature prominently at the end of the race. We have also brought Cunego along, however Damiano only has 1 day of racing under his legs and therefore he isn't in very good shape.

HTC - Columbia has brought along a very strong sprint team consisting of last year's winner Mark Cavendish, Andre Greipel, Matthew Goss and Mark Renshaw. If the result is decided in a sprint, victory looks HTC's to lose.

Other strong sprinters who will be present at the start line of this race include Oscar Freire, Tom Boonen, Tyler Farrar, Alan Davis, Robbie McEwen, Jose Joaquin Rojas, Gerald Ciolek and Daniele Bennati and Gert Steegmans.

2008 winner Fabian Cancellara is in hot form of the back of victory in Tirreno - Adriatico. If he manages to get away in the final kilometres here he will be very hard to catch. He has a strong team for support including Jens Voigt and Matti Breschel.

Katusha looks very strong here as well, they look to have both possible outcomes (sprint or break) covered. Should the race come down to a sprint they should be able to rely on RobbieMcEwn and Daniele Napolitano to get a good result. Whilst they've brought Kim Kirchen, Joaqin Rodriquez, Alexandre Kolobnev and Pippo Pozzato to attack.

Two riders who will be dissapointed however are Thor Hushovd and Heinrich Haussler who's Cervelo team were denied a wild card entry into this race.

Should be a fascinating race.

* I'm a bit busy this afternoon, but I should hopefully get the report up by tonight (my time).
