You can understand the difficulties that the UCI have to face in trying to make the sport more available for sponsors to jump on board and make a good race worth watching, and also for sponsors to 'create' a team that gets good coverage. Yet, at the same time you understand organisers like RCS who really only want teams at their races who want to be there. Most teams would die to get a chance to ride the Giro, but then there are some rather rubbishy ones (Radioshack) who don't care much and if they were entered due to being one of those 18, might send a development squad who would achieve little to nothing of note.

But that's not just to pick on Radioshack, even big teams with big names entered into big races fail to do anything as well.

But anyway, yeah, hard job for UCI and a harder job due to having to deal with lots of different organisers (at least ASO do both the Tour and Vuelta now).

Usually I'd say "Well, screw McQuaid, I'd rather have the best teams available for the year's best race".....but then I remembered Zomegnan is Zomegnan and his invites are always head-scratching.

2011 Tour de Suisse route revealed - 4 mountain-top finishes and 2 ITT. If it weren't for all the mountains I'd assume they were tailor-making it for Cancellara. Either way, it seems like it is really being toughened up and should be quite a good one to watch.

UCI has published a list of applicants for UCI ProTeam and UCI Pro Continental:

Pro:
BMC RACING TEAM
COFIDIS
EUSKALTEL – EUSKADI
FDJ
GEOX – TMC
HTC – HIGHROAD
LIQUIGAS – CANNONDALE
LUXEMBOURG PRO CYCLING PROJECT
TELEFONICA MOVISTAR
VACANSOLEIL – DCM PROCYCLING TEAM

Pro Continental:
ANDALUCIA CAJA GRANADA
ANDRONI GIOCATTOLI
CAJA RURAL
CCC POLSAT POLKOWICE
COLNAGO – CSF INOX
DE ROSA – CERAMICA FLAMINIA
FARNESE VINI – NERI SOTTOLI
LANDBOUWKREDIET
NETAPP
SAUR – SOJASUN
SKIL – SHIMANO
TOPSPORT VLAANDEREN – MERCATOR
UNITED HEALTHCARE PRESENTED BY MAXXIS
VERANDAS WILLEMS

Notice the absence of Europcar, Astana and Pegasus.

According to McEwen, Pegasus did apply.

And Astana? They always register too late and always come up with some sort of excuse. This time, it's related to a missing bank guarantee.

Europcar has applied for ProCont, but aren't on the list, because they applied too late (they've received a dispensation, though).

Anyway. There are just 8 spots left for the Pro Tour (World Ranking, whatever they call it now), so it will be an interesting battle.

Assuming Pegasus and Astana do apply, I think it'll be those two, Euskatel, FDJ, and Cofidis who will fight for the last spot.

Hmmm, interesting to see who will get a new PT licence.

The most likely are probably; HTC, Liquigas, Schleck's, BMC, Geox, Movistar, Astana (if they apply) and Euskatel?

I wish they'd do that test on all samples they've kept from pro races from 2002 onwards, but I guess that'd be a huge carnage for pro cycling. Too bad, that would kick loads of dopeheads out of cycling for a while...

Kirk O`Bee banned for life after 2nd positive.
All results since 2005 are annuled as emails show that he was doped since then.

Also João Benta (Madeinox-Boavista) was tested positive. He admitted and excused at all fans.

After a few months break, the Tour of California are back to blow their own trumphet in their perceived self-importance
http://www.cyclin...nia-places

Firstly theres the belief that every single ProTeam (formerly ProTour team) will want to ride there. They dont, and wont.

Then theres
“We did have a lot of success last year in that regard. Nine stages in the Tour de France were won by guys that did our race and we had three guys in the top ten. We certainly demonstrated that you can be successful here in May and then repeat that in July.”

considering the percentage of dopers in TdF Top10s over the last 20 years, I wouldn't be too much proud of it!

The Spanish National Anti Doping agency (AEA) has a 2,7% reduced budget next year.

Opposition criticized this very hard:
How does it look if we spend less money directly after 5 positive Spanish riders and McQuaid`s critic that we wouldn`t take the doping problem very serious.

7 spanish riders under investigation for blood doping.

Since their names were publicly released as being clients of Dr. Losa (or Dr. Virú, I always mix up those two investigations) almost a year ago and they still get to ride and win races, I damn well hope they're finally dropping the hammer on Sánchez, Moreno, Kolobnev and Maté.

EDIT: Should also mention that 2 of them are about to receive suspensions any day now

Riding in California while doing nothing, then doing well at the Tour equals "being successful here in May and then repeat that in July"?

Flawless logic.

Which Sanchez do you mean, I think it was Luis but can't remember.

Also do you know which two will be suspended?

Dude, ease up. What's your beef about the TOC? Perfectly normal for people to (over)promote their race. I don't see why you have to get bent out of shape.

The other comment is that the promoters are trying to say that the TOC is good preparation for the Tour. You can read it as: the TOC is better preparation for the Tour than the Giro. Again, just some promoting or propaganda to entice the best riders/teams. Nothing harmful in that.
