Philips - TDC ready for the transfer season
With TDC having signed on as a new name sponsor, the team will be known as Philips - TDC in the 2011 season. Hummel will continue as a the team's clothes sponsor along with Pinarello (equipment), Carlsberg and Spyker Cars, the Dutch company which has recently bought Swedish Saab.

The team will be riding in this jersey:
pcmdaily.com/images/articles/14japo1.png

Unfortunately, five riders from the 2010 team will have to find some different colours to ride in. Matti Breschel, Theo Eltink, Maxime Vantomme and the two Italians Angelo Furlan and Domenico Pozzovivo, with the latter being one of the team's major stars, had requirements which the team couldn't meet. They are therefore now on the free agency, looking for a new team.

Philips - TDC signs Joaquin Rodriguez Olivier

Since Michael Boogerd's retirement after the 2009 season, Philips - TDC has been looking for a replacement. In the 2010 season, Diego Ulissi joined on a 1 year loan deal from Festina, and with a 4th place in Amstel Gold Race, among other good results, he proved that he's ready to take over. Unfortunately, Festina decided to keep him for the upcoming season.

Instead, Auber 93 - Look's Joaquin Rodriguez Olivier has become Philips - TDC's first signing of the season. He'll be looking to continue the team's great tradition of top results in the hilly classics.

Unfortunately, long-time servants Christophe Kern and Pierre Rolland were tempted by Auber 93's French project and have left Philips - TDC.

Philips - TDC almost ready for the 2011 season

An amazing transfer season is coming to an end for Philips - TDC.

Today, the most notable signing of the season was announced: Stijn Devolder, winner of the Tour de France 2009 and runner up to the same race in 2010, will join Philips - TDC for the 2011 season.

Today was also the day that Daniel Teklehaimanot, a future great, joined the team, and with the signing of Martin Reimer a couple of days ago, Philips - TDC has definitely proved that developing young riders is essential to the team.

In addition to those riders, Russian Aleksandr Serebriakov joins the team to replace Maxime Vantomme as the team's sprinter. Lastly, Linus Gerdemann and Thomas Lövkvist, both from Café de Colombia, have also joined the team and will be looking to help out the team leaders, although they may also be given the chance to go for their own chance in some races. Thomas Lövkvist in particular proved last season that he's capable of anything - by winning the Japan Cup, he secured his team another season in the Pro Tour.

Obviously, we've also had to let a few riders go. Fabio Duarte joined the team prior to the 2010 season and was given the role as a team leader. Unfortunately, he did not fulfil his assignment at all and had a horrible season. He will therefore return to Colombia to ride for Café de Colombia.

Christophe Le Mevel follows the two other ex-Philips French riders, Pierre Rolland and Christophe Kern, to join Auber 93 - Look while Vladimir Gusev will be captaining British Airways in the Continental Division.

This also means that the transfer season is as good as over for Philips - TDC. Teklehaimanot will most probably be loaned out to a Continental Team while a rider or two will be signed during one of the upcoming days.

Philips - TDC finalizes roster for 2011
With today's signing of Dutch veteran Marten Tjallingii, unsigned in 2010, riding for White Bear Steyr in 2009, the team is now complete. Tjallingii will function as captain du route and replaces the Hungarian Time Trial Champion Laszlo Bodrogi who'll be with UniCredit in the upcoming season.

A few days ago, Philips also signed Stefan Cohnen, a Dutch climber, after having sold Michael Rasmussen to the relegated British Airways. This means that the team now consists of the following nationalities:

6 Danes
5 Dutchmen
3 Spaniards
2 Germans
1 Belgian
1 Russian
1 Swede
1 Italian

Press Release: Philips ends sponsorship

Philips, who has sponsored the team since the beginning of the 2008 season, has decided to end its sponsorship when the contract expires at the end of this season.

With Philips on-board, the team has enjoyed many successes - for example, Michael Boogerd won both the Amstel Gold Race and Fleche Wallone back in 2009.

The big triumph, a victory in the Tour de France by team leader Thomas Dekker, is not among the results, though, and after a disappointing 2011 season, it's hardly surprising that Philips has decided to leave.

Media Article: Lövkvist and Dekker triumph - team still looking for financial backing

After a season with just four wins, Thomas Lövkvist and Thomas Dekker have finally managed to bring a few good headlines. The two riders won their respective National Road Championship.

Thomas Lövkvist dominated the Swedish Championship with an early solo attack. No one was able to follow the strong Philips lieutenant who took the National Championship with 1'25 to Fredrik Kessiakoff.

Thomas Dekker, on the other hand, had to go through a lot of trouble to secure his first National Championship win. Dekker and the rest of his Philips team mates were caught behind in a split, and when the race entered its final stage, Dekker was still behind. But with a massive attack, he suddenly found himself among the favourites in front. In the final meters, Thomas Dekker outsprinted Langeveld and Boom and took a much appreciated win.

The two wins come in very handy as team manager Mike Jensen is still trying to secure financial backing for the upcoming season. According to several reports, a sponsor deal fell through in the last phases, and with the renewal phase starting soon, it's not looking good for the Philips team.

Media Article: New team jersey spotted in the wild?

Following reports in the media earlier today, a fan has sent in a couple of photos of what appears to be a new team jersey for the Philips - TDC team.

The team was seen training on the Mont Ventoux in a black and red jersey that brings back the memories of the former Caisse d'Epargne team.

Although the team management is still yet to finally confirm its presence in the 2012 World Tour, it appears that the team has managed to secure the needed financial backing. No sponsors have been confirmed so far, though.

I think yes, e.on is probably CT's co-sponsor. The question remains, who is the main sponsor? Pfft

New title sponsor revealed
(Press release)

Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker Cars, which was a minor sponsor of the team in the 2011 season, will be the new title sponsor of the team in the upcoming 2012 season.

Team Spyker Cars will use the company's motto: Nulla tenaci invia est via -- For the tenacious, no road is impassable.

This also proves the strong tie there is between the cycling team and Spyker Cars.

Spyker Cars is not the only sponsor to continue into the 2012 season, though. Pinarello will still be the frame supplier while Hummel will continue to deliver the kits.

Team Spyker Cars has also managed to secure backing from a couple of new sponsors:
www.transferkongen.com/flags/europe/ned.png TomTom, manufacturer of automotive navigation systems
www.transferkongen.com/flags/europe/bel.png Mobistar, mobile telecommunications operator
www.transferkongen.com/flags/europe/ger.png E•ON, energy service provider

Lastly, it's also time to show off the new team jersey which is designed by the lead designer of Hummel, Max Belaschov.

Members of Team Rothaus-Aegon earlier announced their interest to sign Maurice Schreurs.
Any information if he could imagine to ride for a smaller Continental team next season?

After this seasons horrible results, which ended with relegation for the strong team, Spyker Cars, rumours has been buzzing that team captain Thomas Dekker could be leaving the team.

Team Festina manager, Andreas Jøhnke has commented on the matter.

"Thomas is a wonderful rider. We have sometimes felt, that he had much much more to give, but his team hasn't always been there to back him up when it really mattered, and I think that has cost him quite a lot in the longer stageraces. I have always talked well with Thomas, and I would love to make him a TdF contender once more, if he by any chance wanted to leave the team.

We know he is an expensive rider, and as such we would need to free some allocated salary in order to make him fit, but as Markus Fothen could be interested in leaving, it could possibly be an ideal swap. It would save Spyker Cars a lot of money on wages, and Fothen is almost as good, and a very very strong CT rider. We have been thinking about it for sure!"

Other than Thomas Dekker the Festina manager made his voice heard over several of the Spyker Cars rider.

"It's a hugely interesting team for us. There are some interesting french riders such as Blel Kadri, William Bonnet and Emilien Viennet we would love to sign in this transferseason, but also talented riders such as Maurice Schreurs, Martin Reimer and Vladimir Gusev are very appealing to us."

Does the Spyker Cars setup have anything to say about the rumours, and comments from the danish manager of Team Festina?

Word is that Dutch puncheur Maurice Schreurs is linked to German outfit Puma - SAP in order to stay in Pro Tour.

He is allegedly cited to "having a great interest in riding with my talented fellow countryman Kelderman" and "not [being] willed to miss out on my beloved Amstel Gold Race".

Team Puma-SAP stated towards the press they would happily admit Schreurs and give him at least a co-captain role in Spring.

It added that "Martin Reimer is another very interesting rider from Spyker Cars who shouldn't be forced to ride CT, and he would perfectly fit into our German team".

Is the Spyker Cars management familiar with these rumours and if so, what is their opinion on this matter?

The press room has recently been buzzing about the future of former Tour de France winner Stijn Devolder, with the man reportedly having stated that he wants to run out the rest of his career at a Belgian team. Upon hearing of this rumour, Team BPost's manager, Count Arach was delighted, "Having such a great name on board would not just provide us with another leader but also give our young climbers someone to learn from. We would definitely be interested in bringing him on board!

Can the management of Team Spyker Cars comment on this rumour?

Spyker-manager unhappy with riders and rivals

It's been a long - very long - season for Team Spyker Cars' Danish Manager, Mike Jensen.

Being one of the most successful teams in the history of cycling, it's now just a shadow of itself. If that isn't already visible, it will be in the next season where the Dutch team will reside in the 2nd division as a Pro Continental team after six years in the Pro Tour.

Team Spyker Cars simply didn't deliver what was needed, and several of the team's key riders seemed out of form for the entire season. According to the team manager, there's one issue that may have affected his riders.

"Spyker Cars has been in serious problems after Saab's bankruptcy, and it hasn't been fulfilling its sponsorship obligations. We had to cut down on costs, and we ended up sacking some of our staff. That turned out to be a bad decision," Mike Jensen says.

Riders have to take blame
He's not quite ready to take the full blame for the horrendous season where Thomas Dekker's win in Tour of Romandie was a rare highlight.

"There's no doubt that we had expected a lot more from riders such as Patrick Sinkewitz and Vladimir Gusev. They were invisible for most part of the season when they should have been captains and leading the way forward," Mike Jensen says.

That does not mean that they will be leaving the team, though. In fact, the Danish manager lash out at the rival managers who have been using the press to express interest in Spyker Cars' riders.

"They are like vultures circling a dead body. It's disrespectful to the team and to my riders. Besides, my riders aren't going anywhere. They made the team relegate, so now they have to stay and secure the promotion. The fancy cars are gone, no Tour de France - it's going to be a good experience for a lot of them, I think," Mike Jensen says.

According to several sources that Cyclingnews have been in contact with, several of the team's star riders, including Thomas Dekker, are already heading towards the exit, though.
