IT'S GIRO TIME!!!
The first Grand Tour of the season
This year's Giro looks like being a 3 horse race. Damiano Cunego returns to try and make it 3 in a row. La Gazetta have given him Rogers as a very able lieutenant, and Cunego is strong favourite to win.
2nd in 2008 was Ricco'. He arrives here stronger, faster - a more complete racer, and he could challenge Cunego.
The 3rd favourite is Sella of Erste, tipped as the best climber in the world. Will he be able to break Cunego? Only time will tell
The big verdict is everyone has put in weak teams here - Cunego has had that effect on everyone. The fight for 4th place and below will be extremely interesting, but it seems a lot of managers have missed a chance for big points here.
In 2007, it was Damiano Cunego who beat now team mate Danilo Di Luca by over 2 minutes.
He fought back from a 1 minute deficit, as Danilo Di Luca took the pink jersey early.
But on stage 15, on the final climb to the summit finish on the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Cunego took a giant stage win, catapulting him into the lead.
From then on in, the lead never changed hands, and Cunego had won the first Grand Tour of the game
2007 Results
On to 2008, and it was Cunego's year again - but this time, he crushed the competition. Di Luca was now a team mate, riding Le Tour instead. Simoni was no longer the force he used to be. The young guns of Ricco' and Schleck were the only challengers.
On stage 5, Cunego took the leader's jersey on the first mountains of that year's edition. From then on, the time gap only increased, until it became slightly embarrassing.
He racked up a total of 5 stage wins, on the Monte Baldo (Stage 17), he took a total of 2'33 on his next opponent.
Final GC:
1 Damiano Cunego LA GAZETTA DELLO SPORT 89h43'30
2 Riccardo Ricco' MAGENTA TREFOIL + 9'23
3 Andy Schleck DOMINA VACANZE + 11'23
4 Leonardo Piepoli CYCLING24 - HONDA + 14'39
5 David López Garcia VIRGIN MEDIA PRO CYCLING TEAM + 15'17
6 Emanuele Sella TELEFONICA + 15'36
7 Gilberto Simoni CARLSBERG + 16'14
8 Patxi Vila SATURN + 16'50
9 Franco Pellizotti TELEFONICA + 17'15
10 Manuel Medina ACCUMALUX + 17'46
Points: Damiano Cunego
Climber: Andy Schleck

A weaker field is to the advantage of my resident Italian Franco Pellizotti! Im hoping for a Top 5 spot.

He really has a good shot at that. After those 3, the field is stupidly weak for the management game. I'm very annoyed neither of my 2 best GC riders are here.
It looks like the other 2 Grand Tour sare going to be very strong

And next year it'll probably be stronger again as everyone realises there's a lot of points top be had
Anyway, my guess:
1. Cunego
2. Ricco'
3. Sella
4. Theo Bos

I send Cataldo and Duenas as my leaders here
however Bozic with his fellow teammate Kocjan will look to surprise in the sprints while Krivtsov, Mangel, Szczawinski, Gautier and Sestili will have to attack every day

Well I have selected my best card for a race of this caliber. Popovych couldn't win, nor become top 3 with Cunego, Ricco, Sella and Pellizotti all capable of leaving him behind up the mountains, so I decided to go for the national bonus and Caruso is my captain. His 79 mountain and 75 hill + his nationality should provide a top 10 GC for him. My hopes is that he will do top 6, but that should be very difficult. Any place within the top 10 is my goal here... I have Gustov for the help, and with his decent climbing abilities he could provide good help. Besides that it's pretty shitty my squad with Vandborg and Van Goolen my best riders.. |

I will laugh quite a lot if Caruso ends infront of Pozzovivo in this Giro - We had quite a fight to get him, and I ended up getting your leftovers |

Whoo, I like that it's a weak field, now Ghisalberti got a bigger chance to get points.

Ghisalberti will do 9th or 10th I think - I was chasing him for Giro captain myself, but in the end I got Caruso, and I think that was a good thing |

Can't do unfortunately - I'm on holiday from tomorrow until Friday.
Unless of course, I arrive back before it's started. But that's unlikely
